The lads are running their Three Roads to London for reasons unique to themselves, but they’re also doing so for one shared reason: to play their own small part in making it easier for everyone - kids in need especially - to share their passion for the sport. To do so, they’ve teamed up with Runners of Compassion to help promote the Shoes for Youth program, a program that provides free (new) athletic shoes to kids in need.
So everyone, every kid, can run their own road.
If you’d like to support the Three Roads to London / Runners of Compassion Shoes for Youth project, please visit the Give Meaning page set up for accepting donations: http://www.givemeaning.com/donate/p-project.aspx?gg=979 - note that all donations will go directly to the Shoes for Youth program; neither Give Meaning, Runners of Compassion nor the Three Roads to London team will take any portion. You will be directly contributing to putting athletic footwear on the feet of children in need, making them better able to stay fit and enjoy the simple wonder of a run in the woods or on the roads.
The Shoes for Youth program has a very simply premise and a very direct effect: kids in need, children without and unable to obtain the footwear necessary to allow them to participate effectively in phys. ed. and play, are identified by their teacher, school guidance counsellor or community center coordinator. This adult then provides the child with a voucher for free shoes at a local specialty running store - Frontrunners Footwear in southern Vancouver Island. Frontrunners and Runners of Compassion split the cost of the shoes; the reward - one more child better able to participate in sport and play - is shared equally.
